Here's an interesting combo...Angelique Kidjo and Joss Stone paired up for a cover of the Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter"...

Civil Twilight - Letters From The Sky
Another one before my Robitussin with codeine kicks in. :)
Band is from South Africa and they were new to me earlier this year. This song is gorgeous...starts quietly with the simple piano piece then as his voice enters the lights come up slightly...then as the music continues to build we see the drummer/guitarist emerge from the background. This song gave me the chills and made me cry the first time I heard it. Still love it. Listen to the lyrics, too...
The Catalyst - Linkin Park (Official Music Video)
This is the newest video from Linkin Park from their upcoming album to be released in September. I like to share new songs w/my 7 yr old daughter especially since she actually like alt rock a lot and we listen to it together in the car frequently. Well, she has heard this one on the car radio but I can't share the video w/her as I find the creepiness-factor is pretty high! I did read that LP wanted to portray how people might spend their last minutes on earth if they knew the end was near. The end of the song--where the lyrics melt into "Lift me up...let me go...lift me up...let me go..." made me think, though, of my own end-of-life imagery and it was pretty cool. I imagined a person being lifted up towards the sky, resting on the hands of all the people who loved her and then her body turns to dust as the wind blows her away and the hands 'let go' of her. What do you think of this song?
The Black Keys - Tighten Up [OFFICIAL VIDEO]
Lovin' this band...so much more impressive than another band of two who shall remain nameless (until my next post, probably! Ha!). This video is great, too...funny, in a sad kind of way.
Who were your personal favorite bands from the 90s?
I would have to say most of my favorites revolve around grunge or post-punk (to me) stuff. Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Stone Temple Pilots...Green Day, The Offspring. They all rocked...I loved the minor tones in the grunge era...I still love it and listen to a lot of Soundgarden, AIC, and PJ today. Love that all three bands are still putting new stuff out in some form (maybe not an entire CD of new material but *something* new).
In fact, as I type this, AIC/"Rooster" is playing on the radio! :)
