All Music-Lovers Welcome!

Music has played an important role in my life for as long as I can remember. Playing music, singing, listening to albums/CDs/MP3s, attending lots and lots of concerts...it's all good! I have nowhere to discuss it and am kind of tired of posting things to my facebook page (where I'm sure most of my friends are tired of seeing all my ramblings, too!). So...that lead me here. Who knows if anyone will see this and read it. I suppose I should have titled the blog "Just You and Me...Talking About Music Again" because it would be a lot more fun for me if other people talk about music with me! I love to get recommendations for great tunes...all genres. Please know, though...I'm not a fan of country music. You can still suggest songs for me to listen to and I promise to try 'em out but can't promise I'll like them if they're country! :) So, please join me...talk about music...

Beck and The White Stripes...

Said I'd be back to tell you my favorites from these two groups:

The White Stripes:
Seven Nation Army
Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground

Beck:
E-Pro
Loser
Think I'm in Love
Devil's Haircut
Where It's At

Give any of those a listen on youtube and you should be happy!

Voodoo child - Orianthi live in KL 4/8/2010

If you're not sure if you know who Orianthi is but you've seen Michael Jackson's movie "This is It" then you know her...she was playing lead guitar for his band on his final tour and is shown many times in the film. She's actually pretty incredible. Here she is doing a cover of Jimi Hendrix's "Voodoo Child." I think even Jimi would like her.

Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros - Home - Official Video

Well, here's an example of a group whom I don't really love but I tolerate this song. It's way too countrified for my tastes. But, our fav terrestrial radio station plays it (several times a day) and Munchkin loves it (and I love the sentiment in the lyrics). In fact, we were just coming home from the healthfood store and she was humming this tune for the final 5 minutes of the ride. So...to honor her...here's "Home" by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes.

Bands/groups/singers whom you don't like yet you like...

Do you know what I mean? There are groups out there whose music is not really my favorite...maybe something about it usually irritates me. But...I sometimes have a handful of songs from the same source which I actually like...a lot. Two rock groups that I feel that way about are The White Stripes and Beck. I'm not what you would call a 'fan' of either, really, but they do both have some good pieces. I'll come back later and tell you which ones in case you're not familiar with them. :)

War - The Cisco Kid - Live 1973 Midnight Special

Caught a PBS special last night on the funk band War. I had forgotten how great they were and how many hits they had! I was trying to fall asleep but kept sitting up and watching more of the show since the songs were old favorites..."Spill the Wine," "Low Rider," "Why Can't We Be Friends." Here's a live version of "The Cisco Kid" from Midnight Special.

Morcheeba - 'Run Honey Run'

This is another cover...the original was from 1967 and I had never heard of it but Morcheeba does this beautiful version...the melody is rather hypnotic and rolling, very pretty song.

She Keeps Bees "Gimmie"

Brooklyn duo Jessica Larrabee and Andy LaPlant...love this song. Jessica has a very raw and bluesy voice and the whole sound is very pure. They have a myspace site if you find yourself wanting more.
